PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

2011- up to today            Practice Manager for Morgan Carey Architects Ltd in Wareham, Poole, Dorset and for the associated practice MCA Lawray in Yeovil, Somerset.


2008-2010            Freelance Architect and designer in own practice in Mexico, developing a series of four top market restaurant projects in Mexico City.

 

2006-2008            David Smith, Architect in Llandeilo (Wales) part time developing hotel projects for “Exclusive Hotels”. Regan & Norris Partnership, Architects in Carmarthen (Wales) full time, developing commercial & residential projects for local clients and developers.

 

2002-2006            Ged McCormack, Architect in Sunderland, full time assistant primarily developing community buildings and housing cooperative projects.

 

1988-2000            Freelance Architect and designer, independent own practice in Mexico City until moving to the U.K. Mainly developing residential projects.

 

1985-1988            Andres Casillas de Alba as his sole assistant designing and building a series of private residence projects. (Casillas has been the recipient of the “Prizker Price” - International Architecture award while working as a partner to Mexican Architect Luis Barragán in the Rancho San Cristóbal project.)

 

1983-1985            After finishing the Architecture degree, working with several leading Mexican Architects, developing a diversity of projects, ranging from urban design, housing developments and private & public buildings.

 

 OTHER WORK EXPERIENCE:

In the 1990’s      Managing, curating and designing various exhibitions of Mexican art and photography. In Chicago taking a group of Mexican painters to the international art fair in 1988. And also working as the agent in Mexico City for the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum in Chicago, USA (now National Museum of Mexican Art) for various projects. Working for GAM, oldest and most prestigious art gallery in Mexico City.

 

1976-1987          Assistant Manager to a Swiss restaurant in Mexico City. Assisting the administration and PR of a 250 seats/80 employees large and busy family owned business opening from lunch to dinner as well as offering external catering and banquets.

 

TEACHING & LECTURING EXPERIENCE:

1997-2000             Lecturing “Taller de Arquitectura” (Design) and leading a Virtual Architecture Workshop via internet in collaboration with Guillermo Vázquez de Velazco form Texas A&M University, USA at the Faculty of Architecture from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

1993-1994             Study Leader and tour guide to a series of cultural-educational trips organised by the International Design Seminar Inc. from Washington DC, USA on Mexican architecture, Art & culture.  

1992                            Speaker and Curator at the Harfnarjördur International Arts Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland. Lecturing on Mexican Architecture and and curating a photographic exhibition on Mexican Vernacular Architecture with work by the internationally renown photographer Mariana Yampolsky.

1989             Series of lectures for the  Bilingual Teachers Education Program at the Art  Institute of Chicago,    Chicago USA.  


RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS:

-       Research and publication of articles and drawings of Mexican Architecture for various travel guides including the current “Dorling Kindersley” guide to Mexico.

-       Articles on Mexican Art and Architecture for various exhibition catalogues and magazines.

-       Research on Mexican Vernacular Architecture for various personal projects (lecturing & tours) including a book with photographer Gabriel Figueroa and another with photographer Mariana Yampolsky.
